DREAM Act Re-introduced in the House today

I'm not sure if my lack of excitement is due to my mistrust of congress, or if it's an attempt to protect myself from disappointment...

Nevertheless, calm as I may be, that did not stop me from emailing, txting, fbooking, and myspacing anyone and everyone to call their Congresspeople and voice their support for the DREAM Act.

I don't think I can afford to really let myself think about it for too long; the DREAM Act is the only chance for kids like me.

For those of you who don't know, the DREAM Act would grant certain undocumented students temporary residency status for six years. If, at the end of those six years we had completed two years of college or served two years in the military, we could apply for permanent residency.

If it were to pass I would be able to work legally; I wouldn't have to think about what happens after I leave college, when my diploma-- my hard work-- will useful as a only a pretty wall decoration.  I wouldn't have to worry about the possibility of being deported from the only country I've ever known as home.  It would be a completely different existence-- it would be a life were I could feel safe, and have one less burden to deal with.

I don't feel entitled to anything.  However, I did nothing wrong; therefore, I do not think I should be punished.  My situation is not a consequence of anything I've done.  I think I've more than earned the right to contribute to this country, and-- arrogant as it may sound-- I know that were the law to be enforced, and I deported, it would be a loss for this country.

Anyhow, here's a neat-o site to keep up with DREAM Act news:

    http://dreamact.info/

And this is all I could find about it on the C-SPAN site:

I'm watching C-SPAN as I'm typing this, but all I see is Kerry shaking hands with an unidentified senator.  FASCINATING.
